Imaginal Cycles

How buying works. Bikes are sold in person, first come first served, during open shop. We do not take deposits or hold bikes over the phone — the one exception is a 48-hour hold if you have already test ridden it. We are card only. Every sale includes a free 30-day tune-up, and we will not sell you a bike that does not fit you.

Listings are updated by hand and the shop moves faster than the website. If something has been up for a while, it is worth a quick email before you make the trip.

Sizing, briefly

The listed size is the frame size, and it is a starting point rather than an answer. Come in and stand over the bike. As a rough guide: under 5'4″ look at small and 48–52cm frames, 5'4″–5'9″ at medium and 52–56cm, above 5'9″ at large and 56cm up. Fit is more about how a bike feels than what is stamped on it.

A bike in a repair stand, mid-adjustment
Every bike is rebuilt and ridden before it goes on the floor.

What "refurbished" means here

  • Drivetrain cleaned, measured for wear, and replaced if it is past 0.75%
  • New cables and housing on anything that was sticky
  • Wheels trued and tensioned, bearings adjusted or replaced
  • New tires and tubes unless the existing ones were genuinely good
  • Brakes set up with fresh pads and tested at speed
  • Test ridden at least two miles by the volunteer who built it

What it does not mean is new. These are used bikes with used-bike cosmetics — scratches, faded decals, a saddle that has seen things. We price accordingly and we point out the flaws before you buy.

Can't afford one?

Ask about Earn-a-Bike. Put in volunteer hours, learn to maintain it, and ride away on a bike that is yours outright. No means test, no paperwork, no cost. It is one of the best things we do and it is chronically undersubscribed because people assume there is a catch.
